Sema

Sema is an indirect Quranic name for girls that means “her status was raised”, “she became exalted”, “she became honored”. The difference between this name and Semaa (sky) is that Sema has the emphasis on the first syllable (SAma), while Semaa‘s emphasis is on the second syllable (saMAA). Sema is derived from the S-M-A root (“high status”, “sky”, “name”) which is used in many places in the Quran.
